Velstone shines in cutting-edge pathology lab

When Klick Technology sought the perfect solid surface solution for a state-of-the-art veterinary pathology laboratory in Cheshire, Velstone’s expertise in solid surface manufacturing proved instrumental. The project showcased how innovative material solutions could meet the exacting demands of medical environments while maintaining aesthetic appeal.
Project details and overview
The project encompassed the installation of specialist furniture and bespoke worksurfaces for two veterinary pathology laboratories and a reception area. Working closely with the client, the primary objective for Klick Technology, was to create a hygienic environment suitable for pathological examination and testing. The facility required oversize sinks with rinse facilities and particular attention to worktops that would maintain sterility and facilitate thorough cleaning processes.
The laboratory environment demanded surfaces that could withstand rigorous daily use while maintaining their integrity and appearance. The scope included extensive worktop installations with integrated upstands and specialised sink designs, all requiring precise templating and expert installation.
Why Velstone?
Velstone’s selection was driven by its proven track record in healthcare environments and its ability to meet specific technical requirements. The material’s non-porous nature and resistance to bacterial growth made it ideal for the laboratory. The capability to create continuous, seam-free surfaces with coved upstands was crucial, as this prevents dust and bacterial accumulation – a critical consideration in pathology settings.
The project featured Velstone’s Packice color from its standard 25mm range, utilizing 23 sheets of 2440x900x25mm and 11 sheets of 2440x600x25mm. The material’s versatility enabled custom fabrication, with coving seamlessly integrated into the worktops. Additionally, Velstone’s solid surface was ideal for accommodating bespoke, oversized stainless-steel sinks with rinse facilities. To further enhance functionality, vertical Velstone splash guards were installed on either side of the sinks to minimise splashing onto the work surfaces.
Client collaboration and support
Unlike standard Velstone 25mm installations, the requirement of coved (integral) upstand made it necessary for this project to be fully temaplted before fabrication. To ensure a flawless finish, Velstone recommended specialist solid surface fitters from their sister company in Ireland, to assist in the templating before undertaking the intricate fabrication of these worktops. Velstone managed the entire process, guaranteeing expert installation and perfectly executed seamless joints.
The collaboration extended beyond material supply, with Velstone providing comprehensive technical support and guidance throughout the project, including maintenance advice to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the surfaces.
